Obituary for Kathleen Kern
Kathleen was born on May 2, 1963 in North Vancouver, BC, Canada. She died in a tragic plane crash on the island of Lanai, Hawaii on February 26, 2014.
She was the youngest of 8 children and was predeceased by her brothers Ritchie and Bruce, sister-in-law Ann and niece Colleen.
She is survived by siblings Larry, Heather (Shannon), Ken, Wendy (Lichlyter) and Bob; sisters-in-law Jane, Frances, and Karen, and brothers-in-law Gordon and Evan.
A generous, fun and caring person, Kathleen’s easy laughter and even her impassioned rants will be greatly missed.
Kathleen attended Sentinel High School; Trent (BA) York (MA); UBC (M. Architecture), and the U. of Wash. (PhD candidate).
Prior to settling in Maui she worked in the Planning Dept. for the City of Vancouver. In 2009 she began working for the County of Maui Planning, Long Range Division.
She loved living in paradise and she embraced the Hawaiian lifestyle, gardening, biking, swimming, surfing and scuba diving. She was an avid foodie and enjoyed good wine and scotch. Kathleen was always adding to her extensive collection of books, shoes and handbags. Stray cats with big personalities knew she would take them in.
Her family wishes to express their sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the others who were injured or killed in the crash. An anaine ho’olewa for friends and family will be held in Kihei on March 16, 2014 and at a later date in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
