David Gardner, 87, of Lahaina passed peacefully on April 6, 2020 at Maui Memorial Medical Center, two days before his 88th birthday. He was born on April 8, 1932 in Massillon, Ohio as one of nine children. As a brilliant youth he found many ways to entertain himself and get into trouble. At 18 he set his sights on California’s stunning coastlines and never looked back. Innovative, driven and with an eye for architecture and finance, he inspired others everywhere he went.
David graduated from Central Catholic High School, attended Kent State, and earned a B.S. from Arizona State. He served in the Army and was an Atomic Veteran witnessing many atomic blasts and their effects. He was an amazing storyteller who loved music, painting and a perfect steak. He became the youngest person to start a bank in California and sold stocks & bonds.
David moved to Maui in 2002 and said his greatest joy was raising his two daughters.
David is survived by his daughters Corky (37) and Kellyclare (36), sister Carol (86) and grandson James (4).
Due to COVID-19, an urn burial will be held at the Maui Veteran’s Cemetery in Makawao at a later date.
