Obituary

Dawn Kinue Matsushita Mijo 64, of Wailuku, Maui, passed away at home on May 7, 2020, with her husband at her side. She was born on February 3, 1956, in Wailuku, Maui.

Dawn attended H.P. Baldwin High School, Maui Community College and the University of Hawai’i. She graduated with a Bachelors of Education degree in elementary education. She taught at Kualapuu, Hana, Kamehameha III, Haiku, and Kahului Elementary schools. Dawn retired in 2016 after 37 years of service. She was an active member in the Alpha Delta Kappa sorority for Educators.

Dawn loved music, golf, watching sports on tv and shopping.

Dawn was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Mabel Matsushita. She is survived by her husband, Gerald; sister, Susan (Howard) Ito; and nephew, Mackenzie Ito.

Dawn was a former student of ours at Baldwin High, plus being a teaching colleague.
She was a bright, peppy gal who enjoyed people.
We were so sorry to see her passing.
Our sympathy to her family.

I remember Dawn well from high school. I think she was in the Keyettes Club and I was in the Key Club. Our clubs would do service projects together on weekends. Such a kind person. My condolences to her family. She passed away way before her time.
