Obituary

Hatsumi (Hatchan) Hayashi, 99 years old, of Kahului and formerly of Honolua, Maui, passed away on
August 5, 2020 at Hale Makua, Wailuku, under the care of Hospice Maui. She was born in Paia, Maui on
October 27, 1920.

She worked at the Lahaina Baldwin Packers Cannery in the 50’s and at Sheraton Maui Hotel when it first opened in 1963 and retired in 1983. She loved being a Sunday School teacher at the Honolua Methodist
Church in Honolua. She taught and enjoyed sewing. She was a devoted and patient wife and mother of three children.

Hatsumi is predeceased by her husband, Kiyoshi, and son, Ronald, Hayashi. She is survived by her
son, Alan (Nobue) Hayashi of Mililani, Oahu and daughter Sharon (Robert) Shimabukuro of Kihei,
Maui, daughter-in-law, Diane (Ronald, deceased), of San Jose, California, grandsons Darren Hayashi of Sahuarita, Arizona, and Adam (Stephanie) Hayashi of Elk Grove, California and three great
grandchildren, Darcy, Brent and Benjamin.

Due to Covid-19, private services will be held together with her son, Ronald, next summer. The family wishes to thank the staff at Hale Makua Wailuku, Lanai Neighborhood, for their wonderful care and compassion for Hatsumi. We are profoundly grateful and blessed for the 6-1/2 years Hatsumi spent happy at Hale Makua.
