Obituary

Rikio Tsuhako, age 90, formerly of Makawao and Kula, died peacefully under the compassionate care of Hale Makua on Thursday, April 16, 2020. He was predeceased by his wife, Edith, and his six brothers: Yoshio, Masao, Saburo, Sabuji, Shigeo, and Tomio.

Rikio was born and raised in Kahului. In his youth, he was a good athlete and singer, and he enjoyed free diving and deep sea fishing. He was a Korean War combat veteran, and owned a body and fender repair shop before joining Furumoto Service for many years. Our mom, Edith, was the love of his life and he missed her every day following her passing in November, 2004. Our dad’s favorite place to visit was Las Vegas. He loved to gamble! His collection of “Jackpot” t-shirts from the California Hotel was very impressive.

Rikio is survived by his daughters, Lee Ann Kapaku (Llewellyn) of Kula, Lori Tsuhako of Kihei, and his sons Rance Tsuhako (Anne) of Stockton, California, and Ken Tsuhako (Cynthia) of Wailuku. He also leaves to cherish his memory, grandchildren Lauren Kapaku Dobashi, Emily, Ethan, and Cameron Tsuhako, and a great grandson, Kealamakia Kapaku.

Our dad will be missed and always loved. Our family thanks the many compassionate health professionals at Hale Makua Pikake for the excellent care they provided him over the past year, his physicians, transporters, and the staff at Liberty Dialysis. A memorial service will be held at a later time.
