Ron moved to Maui in 1958 to attend Maunaolu College in Paia where he found his love of singing and the love of his life Alexa. Ron was known as a “Radio Man” – building and managing three radio stations on Maui – KNUI, KAOI, and KHEI. Eventually he found his way to KMVI, the oldest station on Maui. Throughout the years he was a well-known voice, voicing commercials as well as narrating different projects for many groups. He then went on to publish Maui Visitor Magazine helping it to grow with issues on several islands. He served his community through various organizations including Rotary International, the Maui Police Commission, and the Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce. He was a long time member of Makawao Union Church and its choir and eventually moved to Waiola Church in Lahaina. Ron loved to sing, lending his voice to many choirs and concerts. He will be missed.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Ron Vaught in this time of loss. I am blessed to have so many fond memories of Ron throughout the last nearly three decades through his participation in the Rotary Club of Kahului and many other community activities. For me, he was a consistent source of wit and wisdom. Always ready with a joke and a smile-one of the really good people to bless us with their presence. He will be missed greatly! Jud Cunningham

Ron was just larger than life. I worked with Ron at KMVI in the early 80s. He called me Sukoshi (small) since I was over a foot shorter than he was. He would sometimes shorten that to "Skosh", which made me laugh. I remember his booming voice, his love of singing, and his sense of humor. Years after I left KMVI and Maui, Ron showed up at my office in Honolulu. As soon as I got out of the elevator, I heard that deep, unforgettable voice say, "Hey Sukoshi!"

My deepest condolences to you all. May he rest in peace and aloha.
